Baseball Loses Double-Header to Finish Weekend Series Against 25th-Ranked Campbellsville (Ky.)

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Kentucky -- The Siena Heights baseball team closed their weekend series dropping a double-header against 25th-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) on Sunday afternoon. Cameron Hammer (Freshman, Temperance, Mich.) went 2-6 (.333) and scored one run on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Campbellsville (Ky.) def. Siena Heights, 12-1 (7 innings)

The Tigers came out swinging as they put themselves on the board first scoring four runs in the bottom of the first half. Cox tripled down the right-field line scoring Titus for an RBI. Vail singled to center field scoring Kashiwamura and Cox earning two RBIs. Thompson doubled for an RBI that would score Vail to end the inning with the 4-0 lead. 

The Saints answered back as Trever Fluke (Freshman, Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Joe Ellis (Senior, Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) respectively reach on base by walks. Fluke would then advance to third base on a wild throw by Campbellsville pitcher. Nic Olson (Senior, Howell, Mich.) earned an RBI as he grounded out to second base but scored Fluke to end the inning. 

The Tigers would earn another run as scored in the bottom of the third inning as Padron singled to center field that would score Sepulvedan and advance Thompson earning an RBI. Campbellsville would score two more in the bottom of the fourth inning as Cox and Artega both reach on base by error and Artega stole second then Cox scored. Vail then singled to score Artega for an RBI and the 7-1 lead.

Austin McCaig (Junior, Detroit, Mich.) came in on the mound for Siena to relieve Tristan Roth (Senior, Woodville, Ohio) but Campbellsville kept the momentum going as they earned five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close out the scoring. J, Horton reached base on a fielder choice for an RBI as Padron scored. Artega singled to right field to score Bauer for an RBI. The bases were loaded as Kashiwamura was hit by a pitch and scored Horton. Thompson came up with a doubled for two RBIs as he scored Vail and Powell.

The Tigers starting pitcher J. Davis held the Saints to three hits and one run as they left five on base to earn them the 12-1 victory.

• Hammer went 1-3

Trevor Hulvey (Sophomore, Sterling Heights, Mich.) went 1-3

Thomas Lamnek (Freshman, Locust Grove, Georgia) went 1-3. 

• Olson earned an RBI scoring Fluke for Siena's lone run of the game.

SAINTS PITCHERS

• Roth started on the mound for the Saints as he pitched four innings and struck out two.

• McCaig pitched two innings and allowed five runs.

THE OPPOSITION HITTING

• Vail went 3-4 earning three RBIs and scored two runs.

• Thompson went 3-4 and earned three RBIs.

• Padron went 2-4 and had one RBI.

THE OPPOSITION PITCHING

• Davis pitched 5.0 innings allowing no hits and one run while striking out three.

• Little came in to close for the Tigers as he pitched two innings allowing three hits and no runs while striking out two.

Game 2: Campbellsville (Ky.) def. Siena Heights, 8-7 (7 innings) 

The Saints lead off the scoring as they had one run in the first inning as Parker Mabe (Freshman, Fenton, Mich.) reached on base by a walk and advanced to second on a ground out by Hammer. Logan Nolff (Senior, Monroe, Mich.) singled to left field for an RBI as he scored Mabe to end the inning.

The Tigers struck back as Cox homered and earned three RBIs as Horton and Titus scored. Parker Swartz (Sophomore, Toledo, Ohio) for Siena and Brady Tedesco for the Tigers allowed no runs or hits in the second and third inning as the Tigers remained in the lead. 

Siena came back with a strong two innings as they scored one run in the fourth inning as Jarett Cousino (Sophomore, Oregon, Ohio) SAC flew to center field and scored Fluke. They scored four runs in the fifth inning as Nolff singled to center field scoring Mabe. Fluke reached on an error scoring Nolff and Hammer then Matt Do Nascimento (Sophomore, Mississauge, Ontario) singled to score Fluke to end the inning with the 6-3 lead. 

Campbellsville answered back as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Horton double scoring Titus and Sepulvedan singled to left field for two RBIs as he scored Cox and Horton to tie the game 6-6.

The Saints retook the lead 7-6 as Mabe double down the left-field line to score Cal Olmstead (Junior, Riga, Mich.). The Tigers tied things up again as Horton singled to score Padron for an RBI. Jack Bauer had the walk-off winning hit as he singled to right field scoring Sepulvedan in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 8-7 victory.

SAINTS BATTERS

• Nolff went 2-4 and earned two RBIs while scoring one run.

• Nascimento went 1-4 and had one RBI.

• Cousino went 2-2 as he earned one RBI.

• Hammer and Olmstead each scored a run.

SAINTS PITCHERS

• Swartz pitched 5.2 innings and struck out two while giving up eight hits and seven runs.

Trevor Willis (Senior, Tecumseh, Mich.) closed for the Saints.

THE OPPOSITION HITTING

• Horton went 3-3 as he scored two runs and earned two RBIs.

• Titus went 2-4 and scored two runs.

• Sepulvedan went 2-4 while tallying two RBIs

THE OPPOSITION PITCHING

• Tedesco pitched 4.1 innings while giving up four hits and five runs while striking out five.

• Steven Butts closed for the Tigers as he pitched 2.2 innings and gave up four hits and two runs.
