Baseball Tops St. Francis (Ind.) In Non-Conference Action

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights (14-21-1 overall) baseball team traveled to take on St. Francis in a non-conference contest on Wednesday. The Saints came away with the 16-9 victory over the Cougars. 

The Saints' bats were hot as SHU finished with 21 hits in the contest. St. Francis led early as they opened scoring in the first, but Siena Heights scored five in the third and took control of the game. A big sixth innings, worth seven runs for SHU, helped seal the deal.

Jack Slavin led the Saints at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 and also scoring two runs and two RBI's. Snyder Torres added a 4-for-6 showing at the plate and finished with a team hight, five RBI's. Weston Cook finished with a team best, three runs. 

Wyatt West got the start on the mound for Siena Heights and pitched one inning. Jayson Cleghorn pitched the next inning and earned the win. Marcus Beeson was next on the mound for SHU, he pitched two innings and finished with a team high four strike outs. Trevor Willis, Ayden Hannon and Nic Olson all came in for relief for Siena Heights. 

For St. Francis (9-25 overall), David Snider finished 3-for-4 at the plate, scored one run and recorded three RBI's. Matt Fiorini got the start at pitcher for the Cougars and suffered the loss. 

Next up, the Saints will begin a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series on Friday against Cornerstone. A solo contest is set to begin on Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m.
