ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights baseball team split two games with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Aquinas, on Saturday. SHU won game one 1-0 and lost the second game 10-5, both games were nine innings.
In the low scoring first games, both teams threatened with runners on third multiple times, the Saints capitalizing in the sixth inning. Brendan Green sent a double down the left field line and was followed by a Ryley Overacker double to send Green home, scoring the lone run of the game.
Bradley Connochie led SHU going 2-for-3 in game one. Four different Saints earned solo hits.
On the mound for the full game for the win was Kyle Kuhr. He struck out seven batters while walking no one and giving up five hits. Bradley Buurstra suffered the loss for Aquinas with one strike out and allowed six hits.
The first inning of game two was eventful as AQ opened the inning with four runs and the Saints followed with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Siena Heights (10-18, 10-7 WHAC) tied it up 4-4 as Green hit a single to the shortstop and was sent home by a John Watts single to center field after Carson Wlad sent Green to third with a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the fifth.
Aquinas (10-18, 4-12 WHAC) added on four more runs in the top of the eighth, making it 8-4. SHU tacked on one run in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough as AQ added two more in the ninth to seal the 10-5 victory.
Starting on the hill for SHU was Erich Klingelhofer who threw 1.1 innings until relieved by Chris McKiddie, eventually taking the loss. Also making appearances were Cameron Best and Robert Oliver III.
After throwing 1.1 innings for Aquinas, Walter Graff was relieved by Jordan Wahr. Whar struck out five on his way to the win. Taylor Borchers closed out the game, pitching the final inning.
Leading the Saints was Overacker, going 3-for-5 in the batter's box. Green went 4-for-5 while earning two runs and an RBI.
SHU will be back in action on Sunday with a 12 p.m. contest to close out the WHAC-series against Aquinas.
