Baseball Falls Twice to Saint Francis (Ind,)

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped two non-conference contests to Saint Francis (Ind.), on Tuesday. SHU dropped game one 6-2 and fell 9-5 in game two.

The Cougars (9-24-1) started off the scoring early in game one, addind a run in the opening inning. The Saints responded with a run in the bottom of the third to even the score 1-1.

In back-to-back innings, USF put up runs to gain a 5-1 lead before SHU tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth. The Cougars added one in the top of the seventh to seal to deal.

At the plate, Freddu Jehle, Brenden Baker and Brendan Green each went 2-for-3.

Chris McKiddie suffered the loss for the Saints, throwing for five full innings, allowed nine hits and striking out five before being relieved by Tristan Roth in the sixth. Roth struck out one while USF had one hit.

Siena Heights (9-17) opening the scoring in the first inning as John Watts sent Green home to gain a 1-0 lead. Saint Francis fought back with four runs in the top of the second. SHU added another in the third to cut the Cougars' lead to 4-2.

In the six inning, USF scored five runs. The Saints pushed three runs across the plate to end the scoring for the contest, falling 9-5.

Green went 2-for-2 while scoring twice for SHU. Watts finished 2-for-3, coring once and earning two RBIs.

Four pitchers saw time on the hill for the Saints. Starting was Reid Olmstead who struck out two batters in five innings of action while allowing six hits and four runs. Also pitching was Cameron Best, Landon Lumbrezer and Robert Oliver III.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday to take on Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Aquinas. Opening pitch for the double-header is set for 1 p.m.
