Baseball Drops Two Games to Northwestern Ohio

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost to Northwestern Ohio in a pair of non-conference games on Tuesday. SHU dropped game one 13-3 and game two 5-4 in eight innings.

Northwestern Ohio (33-12) pushed five runs across the plate in the first inning against starting pitcher John Kavanagh. Eventually, the Racers scored five more runs on Kavanagh before he was relieved in the fifth inning by Ashton Budzinski. Budzinski allowed one run during his 1.2 innings for the Saints. Chris Householder pitched the final inning for SHU, allowing two runs.

Ryley Overacker hit Carson Wlad home in the bottom of the second. Travis Stricklin sent Austin Hauck home and then scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough for the Saints.

Siena Heights (19-25) rallied back in game two after trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Brendan Green started the bottom of the fifth with a single and then stole second. Stricklin hit a base hit bunt to advance Green to third and eventually send him home after baiting the catcher to throw to second as Striklin successful stole it. Stricklin scored from a Ryne Sanders single.

SHU added the tying run in the sixth after Zack Dunlop grounded out to the shortstop and scored Alex Robbins.

The Racers capitalized on a SHU errors and the winning run crossed the plate on what should have been the third out in the top of the eighth. The Saints couldn't respond and dropped the second contest of the night.

Reid Olmstead threw for five innings while losing pitcher Taylor Acquiata threw for the final three. Olmstead and Acquista struck out five and two batters, respectively.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Cleary for a non-conference double-header, starting at 2 p.m.
