Overacker Walkoff Helps Baseball Split Against Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Ryley Overacker hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Siena Heights baseball team the 5-4 victory over WHAC opponent Aquinas. SHU lost game two 5-1 on Sunday.

Siena Heights took the early lead in the second inning when Travis Stricklin made it home on a wild pitch. Stricklin scored again in the bottom of the fourth when Carson Wlad hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

In the sixth inning Aquinas (16-21, 7-13) started to rally, pushing one run across with a sacrifice fly. Sending a run across in the seventh and pushing two runs across to earn the 4-2 lead over Siena in the eighth.

SHU (9-22, 10-15) responded in the bottom of the ninth with a walk by Carson Wlad and a double by John Watts. Freddy Jehle hit a single to score Wlad. Daniel Muller flew out to center field to push Alex Robbins across to tie the game. AQ pitcher Brandon Melchert walked the bases loaded with two outs. Overacker pinch hit for Stricklin. He hit a walk-off single to left field to send Jehle home for the win.

John Kavanagh earned the win for SHU after throwing 2.2 innings and striking out one batter. Thomas McCarter started and struck out two batters through 6.1 innings.

In game two, the SHU Saints opened the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Matthew Bondy sending Jehle home.

Aquinas responded in the second with two runs that ended being the deciding factor. They added a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to finalize the outcome.

Justin McPherson took the loss on the mound for Siena after pitching two innings. Chris McKiddie relieved him in the third.

Next up, the Saints will host Northwestern Ohio in two non-conference games on Tuesday. The opening pitch is set for 5 p.m.
