Baseball splits with Aquinas Saints

ADRIAN, Mich. – In the matchup of two Dominican universities both nicked named the Saints, Siena Heights and Aquinas each took a game in the Saturday baseball double header.   Siena Heights won the first game 2-1, while Aquinas won the second 5-2.

In game one, Kyle Kuhr keep the Aquinas bats quiet as he pitched the entire game for his third win of the season.  Kuhr struck out four batters, while allowing just eight hits and two walks.

SHU scored both their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Brendan Green started the inning off by reaching second base on an error, and scoring later on a wild pitch.  Then Austin Hauck drove in Alex Robbins, who was courtesy running for catcher Zach Dunlop.

Aquinas scored their only run in the seventh inning, but Kuhr made to sure the single run advantage stuck for the final two innings.

Freddy Jehle and Dunlop both went 2-for-4 at the plate.  Austin Forsythe went a perfect 3-for-3 for Siena Heights in game one.

Game two was a bit of different story.  SHU saw their starter, Brent Vacarro give up five earned runs in the first three innings.  Then the team tried to battle back with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  But 5-2 was as close as SHU could get.

Austin Hauck went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Travis Stricklin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.  Jehle drove in the Saints other run.

These same two teams will square off again on Sunday.  The double header will start at noon.
