Madonna Claims Double-Header From Baseball

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped two conference contests to Madonna on Wednesday. The scores were 3-1 and 1-0.

The first five innings in game one went quick, no one advanced past second base from either team.

Madonna was the first to put a run on the board in the sixth inning. The Saints quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth. John Watts hit a triple through left center as the sixth inning lead-off batter. Carson Wlad followed with a single to first base to tie it up 1-1.

Although, Ashton Budzinski singled to center field and eventually advanced to third, the Saints were unable to capitalize in the eighth inning.

Madonna pushed two runs across in the top of the ninth to seal it for the Crusaders (25-14, 15-4).

Justin McPherson took the loss on the mound, pitching 8.2 innings, striking out three batters and allowing three runs (one earned). He was relieved by John Kavanagh forced got the final out.

Siena Heights (17-21, 8-13) threatened multiple times in the second game, but couldn't take advantage of runners on third.

In the fourth inning, Madonna sent the winning run home after Mike Tibbits hit a sacrifice fly out to left field.

Thomas McCarter took the loss on the mound for the Saints, striking out two batters.

The Saints will host Aquinas for a four game series on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
