Baseball Claims Adrian in a Battle Between Cross-Town Rivals

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team defeated cross-town rival Adrian 4-3 in a nine inning game on Thursday.

The Saints starting the scoring in the third inning after Freddy Jehle hit a double to left field pushing Ashton Budzinski across the plate. Joe Williams sent Jehle home with a single to left center.

Siena (14-16) added a third run in the third inning after Carson Wlad doubled through right center to send Zack Dunlop home.

Everthing was quiet for the following four innings, until the ninth inning. Adrian came back and scored two runs on Matthew Bondy. Budzinski relieved Bondy on the mound to allow one more run before closing out the top of the ninth, tied 3-3.

Daniel Muller singled to left field to get the Saints rolling. He advanced to third on a wild pitch by the Bulldogs' pitcher Scott Suminski. Muller advanced to third on the next play, Wlad out at first. Adrian (15-8) intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases with one out. The pressure was too much for Suminski as Austin Hauck forced him to throw four balls, earning an RBI on Muller reaching home.

Seven pitcher threw for the Saints tonight in the following order: Chris McKiddie (1.0), Erich Klingelhofer (1.0), Taylor Acquista (2.0), Kyle Kuhr (1.0), Landon Lumbrezer (2.0), Bondy (1.1) and winning pitcher Budzinski (0.2). Suminski took the loss for the Bulldogs.

The Saints will host Cornerstone on Friday for two WHAC contests starting at 2 p.m.
