Baseball Splits With Marygrove

DETROIT, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split with Marygrove, taking the first game with a final score of 5-1 and losing game two with a score of 6-4. 

Game one had a slow start with neither team scoring until the top of the fifth inning when SHU pushed two runs across. Marygrove scored the only run in the bottom of five. SHU added two more runs to their lead in the sixth and another in the top of nine. 

Freddy Jehle led the Saints with three hits and one RBI. Matthew Bondy had a home run in the top of the sixth. Justin McPherson went all nine innings to earn the win. He gave up six hits, one run, three walks and had eight strike outs. 

In game two, SHU scored two runs early in the second. The Mustangs rallied the bats in the bottom of three and pushed three runs across and another three runs in the fourth. SHU scored another two runs in the top of seven with a long ball from Zack Dunlop

Leading the offense in game two was John Watts with three hits. Dunlop and Brendan Green each had two RBIs. Ben Finn gets the loss for SHU on the mound throwing 1.2 innings, giving up three hits, one run, two walks and getting two strike outs. 

The Saints (13-16, 6-9) will return to action on Thursday, April 14 as they host our cross-town rivals Adrian. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
