Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Spring Arbor

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped an extra-innings, 6-5 heart-breaker to Spring Arbor in a non-conference contest on Tuesday.

In the first inning, the Cougars' Jeremiah Johnson doubled to send Alex Holley home. Siena Heights responded with Zack Dunlop hitting a single through right center to send Freddy Jehle home.

The Saints (10-10) took off in the third inning, scoring four runs with two outs on the board. Jehle, Daniel Muller, Travis Stricklin and Austin Hauck earned a hit as Muller and Hauck each sent one across the plate while Stricklin pushed two runs across.

Spring Arbor fought back with another Johnson sending home two Cougars in the top of the fifth. Tyler Reed hit a home run off SHU pitcher Taylor Acquista to start the eight-inning battle for the Cougars. Alex Holley brought in Jack Driscoll to tie the ball game 5-5.

Siena Heights had scoring chances, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. Reed sealed the Saints' fate when he sent a long fly ball out to left field, which Johnson tagged on and went home after Muller made the catch.

Chris Householder took the loss on the mound for the Saints while Brody Harris earing the win for Spring Arbor.

Jehle and Muller both went 2-of-5 at-bat for Siena.

Next up, the Saints will travel to Madonna for a conference double-header. The first pitch is set for Wednesday at 2 p.m.
