Baseball Splits Pair with UNOH

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Height baseball team split the remaining two games of their four game series with conference opponent Northwestern Ohio. The Saints dropped the first contest, 4-1, and finished the second game of the day in an exciting 11-10 victory.

UNOH (14-8, 3-3) took an early jump on the Saints, earning four runs in the third inning and added another run in the third inning in game one.

Freddy Jehle sent Joe Williams home for the lone Siena Heights run in the fifth but it wasn't enough. The 4-1 score held for the remainder of the nine inning game.

Brent Vaccaro was on the mound in game one for SHU allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out three batters. Earning the win for the Racers was Damon Proctor and John Schreiber earned the save.

After the first inning of play, Siena led 3-2 with the top four in the Saints' lineup each earning a hit. Zack Dunlop, Travis Stricklin and Nate Kraus each earned an RBI in the bottom of the first.

Again in the third inning, both teams pushed one run across. Stricklin earned another RBI for sending Matthew Bondy home.

The Saints (10-9, 3-3) added a run in the fifth and tacked on five runs -- Dunlop, Kraus and Bondy earning RBIs --  in the sixth to make the score 10-3 going into the top of the seventh.

UNOH rallied back, scoring seven runs (one earned) on Siena Heights' relief pitcher Benjamin Finn to tie the score, 10-10. The inning started with two errors on the Saints, allowing six extra batters to bat for the Racers. John Kavanagh relieved Finn with two outs in the top of the seventh and successfully struck out the following batter for the third out.

Austin Forsythe started off the bottom of the seventh with a single to the first baseman. Jehle successfully put-down a sac-bunt to advance Forsythe to second. Joe Williams flew-out to the centerfielder. With two outs, Dunlop hit a walk-off single through left center to send Forsythe home as the winning run.

Kavanagh took home the win for the Saints while Schreiber took the loss on the mound for the Racers.

Dunlop led the Saints going 4-of-5 and earning three RBIs, while Ryne Sanders scored three runs. Forsythe finished 2-for-2 and scored two runs.

Next up, the Saints will host Spring Arbor in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
