Baseball Drops Two One-Run Games to Rochester

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped two one-run decisions to non-conference opponent Rochester in a 5-4 seven-inning loss and a 3-2 eleven-inning loss, on Sunday.

Chris McKiddie started on the mound for the Saints in game one. In the third inning, the Warriors capitalized on a should-have-been third out error and ended up scoring three unearned runs.

The Saints responded in the bottom of the third with a run of their own when Joe Williams sent Ty Shafer home. Each team brought one run across in the fourth inning.

Travis Stricklin hit a triple to right center that brought in two runs for Siena in the fifth inning. Unfortunately, Rochester capitalized on another SHU error and sent the winning run home in the seventh inning.

John Kavanagh relieved McKiddie in the fourth inning for Siena. Mckiddie earned one strikeout while Kavanagh earned two strikeouts. Jesse Rometty struck out three batters for Rochester (10-9).

Stricklin led the Saints in game one, finishing 3-for-4 and hitting two triples.

In the third inning of game two, both teams sent runners home: SHU's Freddy Jehle hit a triple followed by an Austin Forsythe groundout RBI.

Anthony Sarkis hit a triple in the fourth inning sending a Warrior home, and took the lead 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, John Watts hit a single through right center and sent Nate Kraus home, tying the game 2-2.

The Warriors capitalized on another Saint error in the 11th inning, Brandon Dupuis took an extra base after hitting a double to center field. Jacob Pacholski got the squeeze bunt down that sent Dupuis across the plate as the game-winning run.

Kyle Khur pitched 10 innings for the Saints in game two and he finished with two strikeouts. Reid Olmstead relieved him in the 11th inning. Troy Chinn was the winning pitcher for the Warriors, earning one strikeout in seven innings.

Siena Heights (7-6) will be back in action for their conference-opener, on Wednesday, against Marygrove. The games are set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at home.
