Vaccaro's Shutout Win Helps Baseball to Success over MVNU

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Pitcher Brent Vaccaro threw for a shutout win to help the Siena Heights baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), on Friday.

Vaccaro earned five strikeouts hile only walking one batter in the seven innings of play. The Cougars had only five hits off of Vaccaro.

The Saints (4-3) had a few opportunities to score in the first three innings but couldn't string the hits together. It the fourth inning, Joe Williams singled to right field and stole second base. Travis Stricklin saw the opportunity and took it, hitting a double to left field and sending Williams home.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cougars (10-6) first batter hit a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Saints defense finished strong, Vaccaro caught one batter looking at his third strike while the final two batters flew-out to second and left field. 

Cediel threw all seven innings for the Cougars, allowing four hits and one earned run.

Williams led the Saints defense with seven put outs and one assist while catcher Zach Dunlop earned five put outs.

Stricklin went 2-for-2 for Siena Heights. Freddy Jehle and Williams each went 1-of-2.

Next up, the Saints will play Indiana Wesleyan in a double-header for SHU's home-opener on Tuesday. The games are set for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
