Baseball Loses Pair To Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests to Cornerstone on Thursday, 3-0 and 4-3.

Eric Henderson batted 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases while pitcher Brent Vaccaro went the distance in game one.

Vaccaro gave up three runs on nine hits in eight innings of work. He recorded four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batsman.

Cornerstone scored once in the first and twice in the eighth off Vaccaro.

Zach Bohl (two RBI) and Aaron Pearson (double) had two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles. Winning pitcher Luke Heller tossed a four-hit shutout.

CU won game two in walkoff fashion in the eighth inning.

Dennis Sharp Jr. (double) batted 3-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Trailing 3-0, the Saints scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth to forge a 3-all tie. Drew Milligan and Lucas Bartz drove in runs before an RBI single by Sharp tied the contest.

Cornerstone won the game on an RBI single by Dalton Reust.

Reust had two hits, including a double. Pearson scored two runs.

Thomas McCarter was the losing pitcher for SHU. In 7 2/3, he allowed seven hits. Three of CU's four runs were earned.

Justin Geerts was the winning pitcher, tossing three innings of scoreless relief.

The teams will meet for another WHAC doubleheader on Friday.
