Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Indiana Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Indiana Tech, winning 5-2 and then losing 9-3, on Saturday at the SHU Baseball Diamond.

Brent Vaccaro was the complete-game winning pitcher of game one. He threw all nine innings, scattering nine hits without allowing an earned run. He recordd six strikeouts and two hit batsmen.

Freddy Jehle and Dennis Sharp Jr. had 2-for-4 games. Sharp scored two runs. Drew Milligan added two RBI, Zack Dunlop homered and Nathaniel Kraus doubled.

The Saints fell behind, 2-0, in the first inning before striking back with Dunlop's solo dinger in the first and an RBI double from Kraus in the second.

SHU took the lead when Kyle Kuhr drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Milligan tacked on a two-run single, which forged the eventual final score of 5-2.

Brian Hakes, Romer Portes and Tyler Denniston had 2-for-4 games for Indiana Tech.

Clay Wallace was the losing pitcher, working 5 2/3 frames while allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. He had four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.

In game two, which lasted seven innings, the Warriors took a six-run lead and led the rest of the way.

Dunlop and Eric Henderson went 2-for-3 for the Saints. Henderson scored once.

Tyler Butlin suffered the loss on the hill. In 3 1/3 frames, he gave up five earned runs (six total) and seven hits.

Kraus drove in a run and Austin Hauck smashed an RBI single, helping the Saints trim their deficit to 6-2 in the fourth.

Indiana Tech pushed its advantage to 9-2 before SHU scored the game's final run on Raymond Cleary's sixth-inning single.

James McReynolds was the winning pitcher for Tech. He gave up three runs on seven hits while recording three strikeouts and one walk.

Portes batted 2-for-4 with a double, run and four RBI. Hakes added a 2-for-3 performance with three runs and an RBI. Peyton Newsom doubled.

The Saints (17-23, 12-15) will return to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. non-conference contest at cross-town rival Adrian.
