Baseball Splits Twinbill With Cleary

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Cleary, dropping a 6-1 decision before earning a 5-2 victory on Wednesday at the SHU Baseball Diamond.

In the 5-2 win, Eric Henderson batted 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs while winning pitcher Kyle Kuhr worked all seven innings without allowing an earned run.

Also, Zack Dunlop went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Joe Williams was 2-for-2.

Cleary (10-13) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning; the Saints (10-13) closed the game with five unanswered runs.

Lucas Bartz sparked the Saints' two-run second inning with an RBI triple. He then scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 2-all.

The Saints scored their last three runs in the sixth. Dunlop had a go-ahead RBI single. Drew Milligan also had an RBI in the frame.

Kuhr gave up four hits while recording four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batsman.

Austin Forsythe finished 2-for-4 with a double for the Cougars. Jack Ropp was the losing pitcher with five strikeouts and one walk in 5 1/3 innings.

During SHU's 6-1 loss, Travis Podolak plated the lone Siena Heights run via sacrifice fly. He batted 2-for-2.

SHU starting pitcher Tyler Butlin made a solid start before running into trouble during the sixth. Cleary took the lead with one run in the fifth and then tacked on five more runs in the sixth, taking a 6-0 advantage.

Butlin gave up five runs on six hits while recording two strikeouts and four walks in 5 2/3 innings.

John Grable went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Cleary. Both Forsythe and Joe Malewitz added 2-for-3 games in support of winning pitcher Devon Jones.

Jones pitched all seven innings and did not allow an earned run. He gave up four hits while compiling five strikeouts, four walks and one HBP.

The Saints will return to action on Thursday with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader at Concordia.
