Late Rally Sends Baseball Past Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team used a late rally to defeat Webber International (Fla.), 8-6, during non-conference play on Tuesday.

The Saints got to scoring started in the second inning when Carson Wlad scored on a passed ball after he doubled earlier in the inning.  The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when Wlad hit a sac fly to score Dennis Sharp to make it 2-0. Sharp doubled to start the sixth.
 The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 4-2.  Joe Williams cut into the lead in the top of the 7th to make it 4-3 when he singled in Eric Henderson.  Once again the Warriors answered back in the bottom half of the inning scoring two more runs to extend their lead to 6-3. 
The drama continued in the top of the 8th inning when Zach Dunlop singled with one out to get the rally started.  Wlad singled to move courtesy runner Lucas Bartz to second.  That brought up Travis Stricklin who delivered with a game tying three-run home run.  
Siena Heights took the lead in the top of the 9th when Williams doubled to start the inning after fighting off many two strike pitches. Sharp moved Williams over to third on a ground out. Austin Hauck finished off manufacturing the run when he hit a sac fly that scored pinch runner Bartz to make the score 7-6.
 The Saints added one more insurance run when Wlad singled in pinch runner Tyler Butlin.  
Justin McPherson picked up the win in the relief pitching the final two innings and striking out 3 while only allowing one hit. Brent Vaccaro started the game on the mound for the Saints and went 5 2/3 innings striking out 9 and giving up 2 earned runs.
Leading the way for the Saints at the plate was Wlad who went 3-3 with a double and a RBI. Stricklin finished the game 1-5 with 3 RBIs and a home run.
The Saints will have the day off tomorrow and will play a double header Thursday.  Game one will be vs Bethel at 9:30 and game 2 vs Bellevue at 12:30. Both games will be 9 inning games.
