2016 Hall of Fame Class

2016 Hall of Fame Class

ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights University Athletics is proud to announce their 17th Hall of Fame Class. The class is composed of Perry Gilbert, Adam Hartle, Jameel Jones, Stephanie Casida (Schaffron) and the 1980-81 Men’s Basketball Team. The 2016 class will include two track athletes, a basketball standout and one women’s soccer player. The class will also induct a team for the 16th time in school history.

Gilbert is a 2009 graduated but played on the hardwood from 2002-2006.  He ended his career with 1,457 points and 715 rebounds, both 7th all-time.  He was a NAIA Second Team All-American, and a WHAC Player of the year. The Saints won multiple tournament titles throughout his career as Gilbert left with a career team record of 99-37.

Hartle and Jones go into the Hall of Fame as the best track athletes of their time. Hartle did his work in the pole vault, while Jones was in the sprinting events. Hartle won the NAIA National Title in the pole vault and is a three time All-American. Jones is a four time All-American as he won several conference championships and eight school records, two of which still stand.

On the women’s soccer team from 1999-2002, Casida (maiden name of Schaffron) controlled the Saints defense. She was a two-time All-WHAC selection and a 2002 NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. She helped lead the Saints to a regional title and national tournament appearance during her senior season in 2002. The Saints were 72-14-3 overall and 38-4 in the WHAC throughout her career.

Last but not least, the 1980-81 men’s basketball team will be honored. The Saints finished 22-11 that year and lost in the NAIA District 23 Championship Game to Hillsdale, who lost in the Final Four of the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. The Saints had an incredibly difficult schedule with many NCAA Division II schools on their tablet. This team was led by the first men’s basketball player to ever receive NAIA National honors, senior Rod Everage. He was a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and First team All-District 23 player. Junior Jerome Jones also was named to the First Team All-District 23 team, and earned NAIA All-American Honorable mention honors in 1982. Junior Bruce Swart (SHU Hall of Fame) was named a NAIA scholar Athlete in both 1981 and 1982. SHU Hall of famers Lawrence Miller (sophomore that year) and Reggie Moore (junior that year) were also a vital part of the team. The 1980-81 men’s basketball team was perhaps the best Siena Heights College team of the first 15 years of the athletic program.

All participants will be inducted as part of the Homecoming Weekend. The Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016.
