Steve Sontag is regarded as the best pure hitter to ever play baseball at Siena Heights University.  From 1985-88, Sontag was the Saints’ everyday shortstop and occasional relief pitcher.

                Sontag was a three-time NAIA All-District #23 shortstop and team Most Valuable Player.  He set a single-season batting record with a .407 average in 1988. During that ’88 season, Sontag led the Saints with eight homeruns, 50 runs batted in and 68 total hits.  Sontag also had a team-high six saves in the Saints’ bullpen in ’88 and finished second in the balloting for the 1988 District Player-of-the-Year Award.
