Hames Whit
Year: HOF Class of '01
Team: Meritorious Service

The following was printed on Whit Hames's HOF plaque:

Before there was an official Siena Heights Athletics Booster Club, there was Whit Hames…the unofficial president of the athletic boosters at Siena.  Hames is the first inductee into the Siena Heights University Athletic Hall of Fame in the administrator (meritorious service) category.

During a distinguished teaching career at Siena Heights that spanned 24 years, Hames served as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for sixteen years. In addition to monitoring the academic progress of countless Siena Heights athletes during his tenure, Hames also became an unofficial historian and patriarch of Saints athletics.

Coaching alumni basketball teams, producing souvenir scrapbooks for graduating seniors, orchestrating athletic fundraisers and serving on the Hall of Fame Committee are just a few of Hames’ many contributions to the SHU Athletic Department over the past two decades.

A graduate of Albion College and Michigan State University, Whit (along with his wife Linda) has also been active in many community projects in Lenawee County.  Hames is past President of the Lenawee International Club and Chair of the Sister Cities Program.  During his tenure at Siena Heights University, Hames chaired the Human Services Division and the Gerontology Division.
