The 1990 Siena Heights College Women's Soccer Team won six of its last eight games and placed third at the NAIA National Championships in Erksine, SC. The Saints had a 14-7 overall record, with four of its seven losses coming against NCAAA Division I teams.  Coach Phil Weaver's team advanced to the NAIA National Championships with a 1-0 vicotry Wheeling Jesuit College (WV) in the Great Lakes Regional Final.  The Saints went 1-1 at the national championships, losing to eventual-champ Berry College (GA). Junior forward Dawn Huggins led the Saints with fourteen goals and 34 points, and junior forward Deb Baierl added ten goals.  Senior defender Tami Simon was named to the NAIA National All-Tournament team for the Saints.  A pair of senior two-sport stars, Shelly Vanderveen (a 2000 Hall of Fame Inductee) and Cristen Strehl, were also key contributors on this nationally ranked squad.  Vanderveen was second on the team in scoring with 27 points and Strehl recorded eleven shutouts in goal for the Saints. Later that year, they would both help the Saints' Softball Team earn its first trip to the NAIA National Championships as All-District infielders.
