The following was printed on Josh Wonder's HOF
plaque:
Josh Wonders is one of the most successful athletes to ever
compete at Siena Heights University and his impact on the success
of the SHU cross country and track and field teams was both
immediate and long-lasting.
Wonders helped pace the Saints’ cross country team to
their best finish ever in the NAIA National Championships in his
first season of competition in 1995. The ’95 Saints
placed 8th overall and were recognized as a SHU Hall of
Fame team in 2005.
Wonders also earned NAIA All-American honors as a freshman at
the 1995 NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field
Championships. During his four-year running career at Siena
Heights, he earned NAIA All-American honors three times at the
outdoor championships and twice in indoor national
championships. Wonders also earned Honorable Mention
All-America honors twice at the indoor national
championships.
1997 was his most successful year for the Saints as he earned
All-American honors at both the indoor and outdoor NAIA National
Championships and was the NAIA national indoor champion in the 1000
meter run. Wonders set the Siena Heights University record in
his national-championship race with a time of 2:24.97; and only one
other person has had a faster time in the 13-year history of the
1000 meter run final at the NAIA Indoor National
Championships.
Wonders still holds two other school records for the Saints
– the 800 meter outdoor record (1:49.17) set in 1997; and the
800 meter indoor record (1:52.14) set in 1998.
