The following was printed on The 1978-79 Women's Basketball Team's HOF plaque:

The 1978-79 women’s basketball team at Siena Heights University (formerly Siena Heights College) was opened the season with a school-record 23 straight victories.  The 1978-79 season was only the fifth season of varsity intercollegiate competition; and the Saints had won a combined 31 games in the four previous season.  The ’78-79 established a SHU women’s basketball record by winning 27 games…a record that still stands today.

The Saints were coached by SHU Hall of Fame coach and administrator Sr. Mary Alice Murnen, who guided the team to a record of 27-2 and their first-ever appearance in the Michigan Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (A.I.A.W.)  State Tournament.  The team averaged 72 points per game and scored over 100 points twice (both times in road victories) during the season.  The team was led by Carol Crissey (11.5 ppg), Deirdre Driver (11.3 ppg/117 assists/46 steals), Peg Mulherin (8 ppg/9.5 rpg), Cheryl O’Neil (7 ppg), Regina Rand (8.6 ppg/7.5 rpg), Wendy Schwark (6 ppg/7.7 rpg) and Mona White (11.6 ppg).  White converted on a school-record 75% of her field goal attempts. The team’s only two losses of the season occurred during the A.I.A.W. tournament.  They fell to Calvin College in the opening round and later avenged that loss with a win over Calvin in the consolation round.
