The following was printed on Tom Weiss' HOF
plaque:
Former Siena Heights cross country and track and field standout
Tom Weiss is the first member of the Siena Heights University
Athletic Hall of Fame to be inducted posthumously. Weiss was killed
in an automobile accident on March 9, 2000.
In 1992, Weiss became only the third Siena Heights cross country
runner to earn NAIA All-American honors by placing 21st
at the NAIA National Championships in Kenosha, WI, with a time of
26:45. At the time of his induction, only five Siena Heights
men’s runners have earned All-American honors.
Weiss captured both the conference and NAIA District #23 individual
cross country titles in ’92 prior to his All-American
performance and was named the team’s Most Valuable
Runner.
As a member of the Saints’ track and field team, Weiss earned
honorable mention NAIA All-American honors in 1992 and 1994 as a
member of the distance medley relay team.
“Tom would be honored to know that his coaches, peers and
alumni are acknowledging his talent and contributions to Siena
Heights now that he is, once again, among the Saints,” writes
Tom’s father, Clarence Weiss.
Weiss is survived by his wife, Cynthia and their four year-old son,
Thomas.
