The following was printed on Bruce Swart's HOF
plaque:
Bruce Swart was one of the first Siena Heights College athletes
to excel both athletically and academically for the Saints. A
member of the Siena Heights men’s basketball team from
1978-1982, Swart became the first Siena Heights athlete in any
sport to be named to an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete Team as a
junior in 1981. Swart was also named an NAIA All-American
Scholar-Athlete in 1982 as a senior center for the Saints.
The Saints, coached by Siena Heights Athletic Hall of Famer Ben
Braun, averaged 21 wins per season during Swart’s four
seasons. At the time of his induction, Swart ranks
9th all-time in career blocked shots for the
Saints.
In 1981, Swart was named the winner of the 2nd Annual
Thomas A. Emmet, Sr. Award, which is presented annually to the top
male and female junior student-athletes at Siena Heights. He
also was a finalist for the NAIA’s Emil S. Liston Award in
1981. The Liston Award, named after the founder of the NAIA
and the first Executive Secretary of the NAIA, recognizes the top
male and female basketball players in their junior season who have
displayed outstanding athletic and academic achievement. The
following year, Swart was named the Outstanding Male Student at
Siena Heights.
