The following was printed on Al Stobinski's HOF
plaque:
Al Stobinski was an outstanding pitcher and leader on the Siena
Heights baseball team from 1987-89. Stobinski ranks #5
all-time in career pitching victories (16) and #3 all-time with a
career earned run average of 3.85. In 1989, Stobinski was the
left-handed ace and the only senior on a Saints’ team that
won 31 games and advanced to the Area VI championship game.
He won seven games and posted an earned run average of 1.93 for the
season, which ranks second all-time in single-season ERA. A
huge underdog in the 1989 District #23 tournament, Stobinski came
in for the Saints in relief in the first inning on one day’s
rest and led them to an 8-5 win over Aquinas College in the
championship game. A week later, he pitched all eleven
innings in a loss to the University of St. Francis (IL) in the Area
VI championship game.
