The following was printed on John Detro's HOF plaque:

Perhaps the best distance runner in Siena Heights track & field history, Detro was a four-time NAIA track & field All-American and three-time All-American Scholar-Athlete for the Saints.  He was twice an outdoor All-American in the steeplechase and holds the school record in that event with a time of 8:58.3 (set in ’85). 

Detro was a two-time NAIA Indoor Track All-American in the three-mile event and a member of the first Siena Heights College cross country team to compete at the NAIA National Championships.

An outstanding student while at Siena Heights, John was one of the first recipients of the Thomas A. Emmet Awards (’84) as the top male student-athlete in his junior year.

A physician’s assistant for the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment and 3rd Battalion at Fort Benning, GA, Detro has participated in the World Military Cross Country Championships three times and won several races while representing the U.S. Armed Forces.
