The following was printed on Debbie Chavis' HOF plaque:

During a distinguished athletic and academic career at Siena Heights, Debbie competed in four different sports and at eight national championships. Chavis was a freshman centerfielder on the 1991 Saints’ softball team, which competed at the NAIA National Championships.  She led the team in runs scored, walks and stolen bases.

Recruited from Monroe High School as a softball and basketball prospect, it was in running where Chavis excelled for the Saints.  She was a three-time track & field All-American and was named an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete four times.  At the 1993 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, Chavis completed an incredible distance running double by earning All-American honors in the marathon (3rd place) and the 10,000 meters (5th place).  Chavis also finished third in the marathon at the 1995 outdoor championships.

Following graduation, Chavis went on to run in the 100th Annual Boston Marathon and the 1997 Mayor’s Midnight Marathon in Alaska to raise money for the Leukemia Society.

Chavis works as a youth counselor at Catholic Social Services and as a psychology instructor at Monroe County Community College.
