The following was printed on Lisa Broccardo-Russo's HOF plaque:

Lisa Broccardo anchored the defense for the nationally-ranked Saints’ women’s soccer team from 1986-89.  SHU Hall of Fame coach Doug Mello started the women’s soccer program in the fall of 1986 and the Saints became one of the top programs in the NAIA almost immediately with talented players that included Broccardo, Abby English and Julie Tortora.

Broccardo played stopper on the 1988 team that won a school-record 25 games and was ranked #1 in the NAIA national poll.  The Saints captured District and Area titles on the way to qualifying for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in the program’s brief history.  The Saints placed third at the national championships and Broccardo was named to the 1988 NAIA National Championship All-Tournament Team as a defender.

As a senior in 1989, Broccardo earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors.  In 2008, Broccardo joins four other teammates (English, Tortora, Shelly Vanderveen & Cristen Strehl) and Coach Mello who were part of the Saints’ 1988 third-place national tournament team in the Siena Heights University Athletic Hall of Fame.
