Siena Heights Announces Four Individuals, One Team to 2023 Hall of Fame Class

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights University will induct four individuals and one team into the SHU Athletic Hall of Fame during 2023 Homecoming festivities.

The Class of 2023 includes Matt Konopinski (men's soccer), Mary Beth Neary (softball), Lenzey Stidham (women's track and field) and Gail Shinall (men's wrestling coach). The 2013 SHU men's indoor track and field team will also be inducted. The Hall-of-Fame dinner will take place on Friday, Oct. 13, during Homecoming weekend.

Matt Konopinski (2003-06) was a three-time All-WHAC First Team player for the Saints' men's soccer team. He ranks eighth all-time on the SHU career assists list with 17. Konopinski totaled 12 goals, including four game-winners, and seven assists in 68 games. He was a two-time Academic All-WHAC and WHAC Champion of Character honoree. Konopinski was selected as the 2006 Thomas Emmett Award winner while at SHU.

Mary Beth Neary (2000-03) was a three-time All-WHAC honoree for the Siena Heights softball team, having been selected to the First Team in 2001 and 2003 and the Honorable Mention list in 2000. Neary was a corner infielder who primarily served as a first baseman. She ranks No. 2 all-time in Saints' history with 909 career putouts. She is also sixth in career RBI (108), tied for sixth in triples (10), tied for seventh in hits (167) and ninth in at-bats (501). Neary's putout totals of 297 and 295 in 2003 and 2002, respectively, rank seventh and eighth all-time in the single-season annals.

Lenzey Stidham (2009-13) was a star pole vaulter for the Saints' women's track and field team. She won two NAIA championships in the 2012 Outdoor and 2013 Indoor seasons. Stidham was a six-time NAIA Championships qualifier and four-time All-American. She won four WHAC pole vault championships.

Gail Shinall (1982-87) coached the Siena Heights men's wrestling team to a regional championship in 1985. That Saints' squad was later inducted into the SHU Hall of Fame in 2003. Two wrestlers from the group are also inductees: Bob Meszaros (2000) and Jerry Frebes (2013). Shinall coaches his men to a third-place finish at the National Catholic Championships in 1985 and finished with a career duals record, both high school and collegiate, of 144-43-3.

The 2013 Siena Heights Men's Indoor Track and Field Team placed fourth at the NAIA Championships, led by 400-meter national champ Doug Dawson. Other All-Americans on the squad included Richard Depalma (2nd, pole vault), Calvin Sullins (2nd, heptathlon), Raymond Carney (3rd, weight throw), Logan Moore (6th, 60 hurdles) and Ryan Hopson (6th, long jump). Sullins' 5,258-point performance in the heptathlon remains a school record.
