Siena Takes Close Loss

Adrian, Mich.  – The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a loss.

Final Score: Siena Heights 8, Aquinas 9

Records: SHU (7-9, 5-4 WHAC), Aquinas (4-11, 3-6 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a rainy day at O'Laughlin Stadium when the Saints squared off. Aquinas scored the first goal of the game but Katherine Tapia and Natalie Williams each scored a goal to put Siena up 2-1 with 20 minutes left in the half. Then AQ would added two more goals to go up 3-2. With 17 minutes left in the first half, Samantha Pawlowski tied the game up at three. Aquinas Saints took the lead again but shortly after Pawlowski tied the game back up at four. Then with seven minute in the half left, AQ scored two more goals to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.

SHU opened up the second half with a goal by Tapia to cut the deficit to one. However, Aquinas scored on a free positon shot to make it 7-5 with 24 minutes left in the second half. Pawlowski added another goal but it was equaled out on the scoreboard by Aquinas shortly after for a 8-6 game. Siena's Williams and Tapia both scored again to tie the game up a eight with 5 minutes to play. Aquinas was able to score a goal with 2:29 left and hold off the Saints to get the upset.
