FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights softball team completed the regular season with a sweep over Indiana Tech. The Saints won the first game 6-5 in nine innings. The game was halted yesterday due to weather and completed today. Game two was an 8-4 decision for Siena to complete the sweep. Kelsey Uhl led the Saints with five hits in the two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Siena Heights def. Indiana Tech, 6-5 (9 Innings)
An RBI single gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 1st-inning. Kristi Carlson doubled to score Taylor Mowery and tie the game up at one run each. Ashley Helmink singled to bring Carlson home to give SHU a 2-1 lead.
Vanessa Wandrie doubled to bring Mowery and Hayley Turk home to increase the Siena Heights lead to 4-1 in the 6th-inning. A single in the bottom half of the inning to cut the SHU lead to two runs. A double brought three runs home to give Tech a 5-4 lead.
Uhl hit a ground out that allowed Ashley Bearden to score a run to knot things up at five runs and for extra innings. Racquel Ward doubled to score Lauren Valdez and give the Saints a 6-5 lead in the top half of the 9th-inning. The game was called due to weather and finished on Sunday where Siena was able to hold on for the one-run win.
Game 2: Siena Heights def. Indiana Tech, 8-4
A single up the middle scored two runs in the opening inning of game two to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Mowery hit a single to left field. Indiana Tech had an error on the play that moved Mowery to second base and scored Turk and Uhl to allow the Saints to tie. Lily Guerra singled to left field to score Mowery. Guerra stole second base and Carlson scored on the throwing error to put Siena on top 4-2.
Three more runs crossed the plate for the Saints in the 3rd-inning. The first was brought in with a bunt from Vanessa Wandrie that scored Helmink. Uhl scored on a throwing error and Carlson singled down the right-field line to score Wandrie and give the Saints a 7-2 lead.
An RBI single cut the Indiana Tech deficit to four runs. Wandrie doubled to left field to score Sam Hill and regain a five-run lead (8-3) in the 7th-inning. A run by the Warriors put the score at 8-4 but the Saints were able to seal the win with the third out on a strikeout.
SAINT HITTING
• Ward tallied three hits and an RBI to lead Siena in game one.
• Helmink (2-4), Uhl (2-5), and Carlson (2-3) each totaled two hits in game one.
• Wandrie tallied two hits and a team-high four RBIs on the day to lead Siena.
• Uhl had three hits in game two and scored two runs.
• Jordan Bianchi (2-3) and Carlson (2-4) finished with two hits in game two.
SAINT PITCHING
• Ward (W, 16-8) struck out three batters while allowing 14 hits and five earned runs in the win.
• Uhl (W, 13-6) earned her 13th win after three strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched in game two. She gave up seven hits and three earned runs in the winning performance.
OPPOSITION HITTING
• Brianna Glass and Emily Martin each had three hits in game one.
• Ali LeNoue led the Warriors with three RBIs in the first game.
• LeNoue, Martin, and Kari LaFreniere each had two hits in the final game.
OPPOSITION PITCHING
• Jaden Romero (L, 5-3) allowed 12 hits and four earned runs while striking out four strikeouts in nine innings pitched.
• Ashley Alvey (L, 8-3) gave up four earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched to earn the loss.
UP NEXT
The Saints will compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament that starts on May 2. The matchups have yet to be announced by the league office.
