Men's Lacrosse Late Push Falls Short Against Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team lost a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) game against Aquinas 11-8 on Wednesday night at O'Laughlin Stadium. Ryan Mamo led the Saints in points with five (2+3=5) in the losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jake Gallaher gave the Saints a quick 1-0 lead with a goal at 11:35 off an assist from Ryan Mamo. Aquinas responded with four-straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 6:06 left in the first quarter. Danny Kreitzer cut the deficit to two with a goal at the 3:21 mark.

The visiting Saints scored the first two goals of the second to extend the lead to 6-2 with just over 12 minutes left in the half. Alex Gilbert shook the net at 10:48 to bring Siena within three goals of tying. Aquinas scored a 6:04 before Mamo netted a goal with 51 seconds remaining to keep AC's advantage at three goals as the teams entered the half.

The Saints scored two goals in the third but allowed three goals by Aquinas to go into the fourth quarter with a 10-6 disadvantage. Aquinas scored in the opening two minutes of the fourth quarter to hold an 11-6 lead. Mamo brought the lead down to three goals with a score with 9:09 remaining in regulation. Gallaher completed the hat trick with a goal that brought the score back to the familiar margin of three goals (11-8) with 8:17 left on the clock. Siena pushed in the final eight minutes of the game but failed to crack the Aquinas defense before the time ran out.

TOP SAINTS

• Gallaher scored three times on seven shots and also had an assist along with a team-high seven ground balls.

• Mamo finished with two goals and three assists while scooping up a ground ball.

Vinnie Jean (L, 1-3) made 15 saves in the losing effort.

THE OPPOSITION

• Cam Rogers had a staggering six assists while also scoring three goals to lead Aquinas to the win.

• Sam Klinsky scored three goals and dished two assists.

Siena will remain at home to host #1 Madonna on Saturday, March 30 in a WHAC game starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
