BRIGHTON, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team pulled out a 19-11 win over Tennessee Wesleyan to begin the 2019 season 1-0. Jake Gallaher tallied a game-high six goals to lead the Saints to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after netting three scores in the opening five minutes of the game. Nolan Lyons tallied the first goal for Siena at the 14:16 mark while Ryan Mamo doubled the lead with 13:43 left in the first quarter. Garnet Potter assisted on both of SHU's first two goals. Jake Gallaher tallied the first of six goals with just under 11 minutes left in the first to create the 3-0 lead. Tennessee Wesleyan would score four of the next six goals in the quarter to only trail by one score after the first (5-4).

Similar to the first quarter, the Saints registered the first three goals of the second to increase their lead 8-4. The Bulldogs would score two goals to cut the deficit in half, but Siena would respond with three more goals to take an 11-6 lead into the half.

SHU scored the opening four goals in the second half to take a big (15-6) lead. Tennessee Wesleyan scored once in the third quarter before the Saints rattled off two more goals for a 17-7 advantage going into the final 15 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs paced the final quarter by scoring four of the six goals in the final stanza, but Siena's lead was much too high for TWU to catch up before the end of regulation.

TOP SAINTS

= Jake Gallaher added one assist, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers to his totals for the game.

= Nolan Lyons shook the nets five times while hauling in one ground ball.

= Garnet Potter had a game-high seven assists while also scoring twice and recording a ground ball and a caused turnover.

= Ryan Mamo, Alex Gilbert, and Nathan Lipon each scored twice in the game.

= Alex McCarthy earned the decision in the net while Vinnie Jean saw time in the game and made six saves.

THE OPPOSITION

= Roderick Williams led the Bulldogs with four goals. He also dished two assists.

= Ian Gonzalez, Jaylan Steen, and Jacob Patterson each scored twice for Tennessee Wesleyan.

= Kalen Fearing played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 16 saves.

The Saints travel down to Kentucky to face Cumberlands on Sunday, March 10. The game is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. faceoff.
