Saints Take Down Rochester in First Round of WHAC Tournament

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball defeated Rochester in the opening round of the WHAC tournament by a score of 75-70

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints and the Warriors squared off for the opening round of WHAC conference tournament. Rochester jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Saints would cut the deficit with to five with just under 14 minutes to play in the first half. A and one by DJ Lundy cut the lead to two (16-14) in the opening 20 minutes.

With the score 23-20 the Warriors completed a 5-0 run to take a 28-20 lead with just over seven in a half minutes. Rochester would push the lead to nine points with four and half remaining. The score sat at 39-32 with both teams going into the locker room.

After back-to-back layups by the Warriors to start the second half, the Saints would go on a 12-0 run sparked by a jumper by DeMarco Dickerson to give a 44-43 lead with 15:42 remaining in regulation. The Saints would push the lead to seven (54-47) with a jumper by Kevin Smith II with 9:41 left on the clock. 11-0 run by Rochester would give the Warriors a 64-50 lead with 5:18 left to play. Smith hit a three-point jumper that would spark a 5-0 run to cut the Saints deficit to just one point (60-59) with 4:07 left on the clock.

Another 5-0 run by the Saints would regain the lead 64-62 with just over two minutes left to play. Rochester layup would tie things up at 64 all, before a Saints 7-0 to put the score at 71-64 with 45 seconds left.

Three-point shot by the Warriors would cut the lead to four points but the Saints would hold on for the five point victory.
