Women's Volleyball Drops Contest to #18 Cornerstone in WHAC Play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team traveled to take on No. 18 Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Friday. The Saints dropped the match, 3-1. Set scores were 25-22, 23-25, 23-25 and 18-25. 

SHU (24-5, 10-4 WHAC) was able to open the match with a set one win. In set two the Saints held a three point lead at 18-15, but the Golden Eagles evened the set at 20-20 and were able to battle for the win, tying the match at 1-1. Set three was back and forth throughout but Siena Heights was able to gain a 23-20 lead close to the end of the set but Cornerstone (24-6, 13-1 WHAC) was not finished. CU rallied and scored the final five points of the set to steal away the set three victory giving them a 2-1 match lead. In the fourth and final set of the match, Cornerstone maintained control throughout most of the set and finished off the match. 

Leading the Saints attack was Taylor Purcell with 13 kills, followed close behind by Libby Breton who added 11. Breton also finished with a team high, eight assisted blocks. Paige Hudgin contributed a team high, 23 digs while Gabrielle Kalugar tacked on 21 digs. Amanda Metz distributed 38 assists for Siena Heights. Anna Tartarian and Metz, also served two aces. 

Next up, the Saints will host it's regular season finale against Aquinas on Wednesday, Nov. 1. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
