Hudgin, MVP and Metz All-Tournament Team as Women's Volleyball Goes 4-0 in Siena Heights Tournament

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team competed in the second day of the Siena Heights Tournament. In game one of the day, the Saints took on Lawrence Tech and won the match 3-2. In the second game, SHU faced off against St. Ambrose (Iowa) and swept the match, 3-0. The Saints complete their own, Siena Heights Tournament with a 4-0 record, sweeping 3 of the four matches. 

Against the Blue Devils the Saints took the first set 26-24 and the second set, 25-23, before dropping the third and fourth sets by scores of 20-25 and 23-25. Finally, in the fifth and final set of the match, SHU finished off the victory with a set score of 17-15.

Paige Hudgin led the Saints attack with 15 kills and added a career high, 29 digs. Abby Whitehead followed close behind in kills with 12. Amanda Metz led the squad with 48 assists and also added 15 digs. Ashleigh Shay finished with four assisted blocks to lead the Saints. 

In game two, against St. Abrose (2-5 overall), Siena Heights won the contest in three, with set scores of 25-29, 25-14 and 25-15 to help them improve to 8-1 overall on the season.

Leading the Saints attack again, was Hudgin, with nine kills, with Christine Tylutki and Metz each adding five. Metz finished with a team high 16 assists while Madison Sitter dished out ten. Gabrielle Kalugar was the leader in digs with 19 with Shay finishing with a team high, with three assisted blocks. 

For Siena Heights, Paige Hudgin was named tournament MVP. Amanda Metz was named as a member of the all-tournament team.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 6, when they host Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent, No. 22 Lourdes. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
