Women's Volleyball Falls in WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal to #20 Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team took on Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 3 seed and NAIA No. 20 ranked Cornerstone in a WHAC tournament quarterfinal match. The Saints dropped the contest 3-1 with set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 24-26 and 11-25.

Paige Hudgin led the Saints (21-12, 8-8 WHAC) with 14 kills and was followed by Taylor Felver with ten. Amanda Metz was the team leader in assists with 36 on the night. 

Gabrielle Kalugar finished with 27 digs. Metz and Hudgin added 16 and 12 digs respectively. To go along with her ten kills, Felver also had four assisted blocks in the match.

Cornerstone (31-7, 15-1 WHAC) was led by Heather Green with 18 kills and Hope Leppink with 42 assists. Mackenzie Vallad finished with 23 digs while Leppink and Ellie Van Laar both assisted on blocking five SHU attacks. 

SET-BY-SET

Set one: Siena Heights 25, Cornerstone 22
Early in the set Cornerstone took of on a 9-0 run and the Saints were eventually able to pull of a 9-0 run of their own and regain the lead and eventually take the set.

Set two: Siena Heights 21, Cornerstone 25
Scores and small runs were traded throughout the set. The score was tied at 21-21 when the Golden Eagles finished out the set on a 4-0 run.

Set three: Siena Heights 24, Cornerstone 26
Siena Heights gained an early advantage starting out the set 12-7. Cornerstone responded and tied the score at 12-12. The set was tight until the final point. The last tie was at 24-24 when CU finished the set win.

Set four: Siena Heights 11, Cornerstone 25
The Golden Eagles took control of the set early with a 7-0 run. The Saints answered with a few points to bring the lead to within four, but Cornerstone widened their lead by capping off another 7-0 run. SHU was not able to recover and dropped the match.
