Women's Volleyball Defeats Northwestern Ohio in WHAC Match Up

ADRIAN Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team defeated Northwestern Ohio in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest, 3-0, with set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-21 on Friday night.

Paige Hudgin led the Saints (11-4, 5-2 WHAC) with 11 kills. She was followed by Taylor Purcell who added seven kills. Amanda Metz dished out 33 assists and Haley Oleson completed two aces on the night.

The SHU leader in digs was Gabrielle Kalugar with 17. Hudgin and Metz also added 11 and 10 digs respectively. Purcell and Ashleigh Shay both assisted on two blocks for Siena Heights.

The leaders for Northwestern Ohio (10-12, 2-5 WHAC) were Taylor Winner with 13 kills and Kayleigh Hulst with 29 assists. Louise Back and Taina' Soranzo both had 13 digs for the Racers.

Set one: Siena Heights 25, Northwestern Ohio 13
The Saints exploded on an early 8-0 run making the score 10-3. The Racers scored a couple points before SHU took off on another run and never looked back.

Set two: Siena Heights 25, Northwestern Ohio 22
The score remained close for most of the game, resulting in seven ties. UNOH took their largest lead at 6-10, but SHU fought back and regained the lead at 14-13 and was able to hold on down the stretch.

Set three: Siena Heights 25, Northwestern Ohio 21
The set score was close throughout, but with Northwestern Ohio hung on to their lead until Siena Heights took over the set at 13-12. The Racers were not finished yet. They fought back and eventually went on a 5-0 run to reach their largest lead of the set at 17-21. SHU was determined to finish the match and rattled off the final nine points of the match to complete their victory.
