Women's Volleyball Drops WHAC Match to Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team traveled to take on Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest. The Saints dropped the match 1-3, with set scores of 17-25, 16-25, 25-19 and 15-25.

Paige Hudgin was the leader for the Saints in kills with 13. Amanda Metz finished the match with 29 assists. Both Hudgin and Metz completed 10 digs each for SHU.

Gabrielle Kalugar led Siena Heights with 14 digs, while Abby Whitehead and Libby Breton both assisted on three blocks.

Cornerstone was led by Heather Green with 21 kills and Hope Leppink finished with 42 assists. Madison Herrema ended the match with 16 digs while Kendra Zwart assisted on five blocks for the Golden Eagles.

Set one: Siena Heights 17, Cornerstone 25
The scoring was back and forth in the beginning of the set with the Saints holding a close lead. The Golden Eagles took their first lead at 10-9. Points were traded until CU took off on a 5-0 run and SHU was never able to recover.

Set two: Siena Heights 16, Cornerstone 25
Points were traded early, until CU rattled off a 5-0 run. The Saints answered with a point, before the Golden Eagles scored another three consecutive points. Siena Heights battled back and tied the score at 11-11, but it wasn't enough.
 
Set three: Siena Heights 25, Cornerstone 19
With the match on the line, the Saints needed a set victory to stay alive. SHU had their foot on the gas pedal from the beginning, going on a 6-0 run and stretching the lead to 12-6. CU fought back, but the Saints were able to hold on.

Set four: Siena Heights 15, Cornerstone 25
Cornerstone was hot from the beginning, and never let up. They capped off a 8-0 run to bury the Saints and win the match.

Next up, the Siena Heights women's volleyball team will host Northwestern Ohio in a WHAC match up on Friday, Sept. 30. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
