Women's Volleyball Defeats Davenport in Home Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team defeated Davenport 3-0, in their home opener on Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-20.

Paige Hudgin led the Saints with 19 kills and 15 digs, followed by Abby Whitehead with 12 kills.

Amanda Metz was the leader for SHU with 47 assists, while Haley Oleson finished the match with three aces.

Davenport was led by Ashley VanderHorst with 15 kills, followed by Sarah Wendling and Krissy Dill with 14 and 13, respectively.

Sydney Tracer finished the match for the Panthers with 48 assists. Kasey Stehouwer had 24 digs for DU.

SET-BY-SET

Set one: 25-15
The Saints started the match with great energy as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead. SHU continued to fend off the Panthers and maintained control throughout the set.

Set two: 25-23
The Panthers scored the first point of the set, but the Saints answered with 4-0 run putting the score at 4-1. SHU and DU traded points for most of the set until Davenport made a couple of runs and regained the lead at 18-19. The Saints weren't finished yet, as they battled back and would take the lead for good at 21-20.

Set three: 21-25
Davenport scored the first two points of the set then the Saints rallied and tied it at 3-3. Scoring went back and forth, SHU was leading the set until DU went on a 4-0 run and took the lead at 17-16. Siena Heights tied the set again at 18-18 but Davenport took the next point and didn't look back from there.

Set four: 25-20
SHU opened the scoring with a 2-0 start that was tied by DU. The Saints then jumped out to a 8-4 lead and held off the Panthers for the rest of the set.

Next up, the Saints travel to take on WHAC conference opponent, Marygrove, on Friday, Sept. 16. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
