Baker Breaks Women's Volleyball Kills Record in Loss to #15 Davenport

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Halie Baker had 15 kills and became the Siena Heights women's volleyball program's all-time kill leader, but the Saints dropped a 3-1 decision to 15th-ranked Davenport in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Baker increased her career kill total to 1,103 to pass the previous record-holder, who had 1,101 in 2004-07. Baker's record-breaking kill -- her 14th on the night -- occurred in the fourth set in DU's 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18 win.

DU opened the first set on an 8-1 run before the host Saints responded with a 12-5 charge to even the score at 13-all. From there, the Panthers enjoyed a 12-5 stretch of their own to win the set.

SHU evened the match in set two, taking a 4-1 lead and then holding the advantage the rest of the way.

The Panthers took command in the third set, going on an 11-2 streak to break a 7-all tie. Then, in the fourth, DU ended the match with a 10-3 charge after the set was knotted at 15-15.

Baker tied and re-set the kill record with assists from Tillotson. Her record-breaking kill tied the fourth at 14-all.

Davenport (16-4, 11-1) was led by Marcey DeHaan's 18 kill while Krissy Dill put down 12 kills and Molly Lameyer contributed 11 kills.

Also for the Panthers, Amber Getty compiled 46 assists and 10 digs. Also in the digs category, Morgan Torres had 19, Dill made 17, Belma Alic finished with 16, and Lexie Spetoskey compiled 11.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a 7 p.m. WHAC match against Northwestern Ohio.
