2017-2018 Women's Indoor Track and Field Season Recap

 

 

The Siena Heights women indoor track and field team had a great season finishing eight in the country at the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships and third in the 2018 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with 132 pts and 26 contributing efforts.

Tasha Mckinley and Sheila Mckinley tied for Outstanding Performers of the year. Tasha Mckinley shines as she is a National Champion, five-time All-American, one-time Conference Champion, and three-time Runner-Up Conference Champion. Her sister Sheika Mckinley brings the competitive spirit as she is a six- time All-American, three-time Conference Champion, and two-time runner up conference champion as both of them are in their senior season.

Alexis Moore and Asia Gardner shared the Tim Bauer Award for Excellence. Asia Garner is an Indoor Conference Champion and placed sixth at nationals for the 60m dash and eighth for the 200m dash breaking both school records. Alexis Moore is also eighth in the country for her efforts in the 400m dash. She also earned Honorable Mention for the 400m dash at the Indoor Conference Championship.

Tyriah Pryor was named the Most Improved while Delaney Stersic and Megan Rosales tied for Newcomers of the Year. These three and their fellow 4x4 meter relay runner Brianna Pekel broke the school record for the race with a time of 3:51.95.

Other Indoor Conference Champions included Charlena Williams for the triple jump, Haley Hudson for shot put, and Rachael O'Neill for weight throw.

SHU continues into the outdoor season and is set to host the Don Kleinow Invitational on Apr. 20 at the O'Laughlin Stadium.
