#7 Women's Track and Field Earns Fourth at Hillsdale "Wide-Track" Meet

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's track and field team took fourth place at the Hillsdale "Wide-Track" Meet in the 22-team field, on Friday and Saturday. The Saints earned six automatic-bids and four provisional-bids.

SHU battled against NCAA DI, DII, DII and NAIA schools in the meet, only trailing Grand Valley State (125 points), Hillsdale (95.5 points) and Eastern Michigan (82.5 points) on their way to fourth place with 80 points.

With a career-best vault, Sheila McKinley was the top-NAIA finisher in the pole vault, clearing an automatic-height of 12-6 ¼ to take second place. Earning fourth place was Tasha McKinley with a height of 12-2 ½.

The Saints 4x400 meter relay ran their best time of the season with a 4:00.12 to take fourth place and earn an automatic-bid to nationals. The relay team consisted of Stersic, Megan Rosales, Pekel and Moore.

Asia Gardner managed a seventh place finish in the 60m dash with a final time of 7.87 seconds. In the preliminaries, Gardner ran a provisional-time of 7.77 seconds. In the 200m Championship race, Gardner earned an automatic-time of 25.08 seconds, which was good enough for fifth place.

In the weight throw, Courtney Taylor threw an automatic-distance of 53 feet, 3 ¾ inches to earn sixth place in a field of 48 athletes.

Out of 26 competitors, Mildrenae Young-Brooks took eighth in the 60m hurdles with an automatic time of 8.95 seconds. She also leapt 17 feet, 4 ¾ inches in the long jump to take third place.

In the shot put, Haley Hudson took second place with a provisional toss of 44 feet, 4 inches. She was the top-NAIA finisher in the 53-person field.

Charlena Williams took third in the triple jump with a provisional-distance of 36-7 ¾.

In the 400 meter Championship race, Alexis Moore took seventh place with a provisional-time of 58.9 seconds. Delaney Stersic managed second in the 400m dash in 59.75 seconds.

Brianna Pekel earned fourth in the 600m run with a time of 1:40.06.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to Defiance (Ohio) and Grand Valley State on Friday and Saturday.
