Women's Track and Field Claims Fifth at GVSU Open

ALLENDALE, Mich.—The Siena Heights women's track and field team earned third place at the Grand Valley State Open, on Friday. The Saints earned 50 points while GVSU won with 126 points.

 

Scoring points for the Saints were Asia Gardner. Gardner took second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.70, and the 200m dash 24.8, automatically-qualifying in both events.

 

In the 600m run Brianna Pekel took second with a time of 1:38.69. The 4x400m relay team took second place with a time of 3:58.21.

 

Mildrenae Young-Brooks placed fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.84.  Alexis Moore placed fourth in the 400m dash in 58.72. Both Young-Brooks and Moore earned provisional qualifying status.

 

Sheila McKinley vaulted 3.57m to claim fourth place and a provisional qualifying mark.

 

The Saints scored points in the triple jump from Abigail Bansen as she took fifth place with a leap of 10.02m. Rachel O'Neill took fifth place in the weight throw with a distance of 15.73m.

 

MARION, Ind.—A few Saints traveled to the IWU Invitational for the Saturday meet.

 

Julia Forbes jumped 5.45m in the long jump, good for second place. Forbes also placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.26m.

 

Charlena Williams jumped into first place in the triple jump with a provisional distance of 11.18.

 

Mildrenae Young- Brooks took third in the long jump with a distance of 5.35m.

 

Siena Heights will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, for the Findlay Classic.
