Women's Track and Field Earn Seven Automatic Qualifiers Over the Weekend

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team competed in the GVSU Big meet on Friday and the Tiffin Dragon Invite on Saturday. As a team, the Saints garnered seven automatic-qualifying performances, two provisional-qualifying performances and two first place finishes.

GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY BIG MEET

Tying for third place in the pole vault was Sheila McKinley and Tasha McKinley. Both cleared the vault at an automatic-qualifying distance of 3.66m (12-0).

Reaching a provisional-distance of 11.10m (36 feet, five inches) was triple-jumper Charlena Williams.

Asia Gardner finished the 200m dash in 25.11 seconds, an automatic-qualifying time. In the preliminary round of the 60m dash, Gardner ran a provisional-qualifying time of 7.84 seconds.

Taking first in the 600m run was Mariah Ridal, finishing in 1:36.17. Close behind was Brianna Pekel, crossing the finish line in 1:37.18 for second place. Alexis Moore finished fourth in 1:37.38, all three runners finishing in an automatic-qualifying time.

TIFFIN DRAGON INVITE

Ashley O'Neill finished first in the weight throw with a toss of 17.22 meters (56 feet, six inches).

In the 800m run, Ridal finished in second at 2:23.65.

Next up, the Saints will travel to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday hosted by Aquinas.
