Johnson, McKinley Improve Auto Marks; 4x800 Hits New Auto For Women's Track & Field

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Marissa Johnson and Tasha McKinley improved upon NAIA automatic-qualifying performances while the Siena Heights 4x800-meter relay team claimed a new auto as the Saints' women's indoor track and field team competed at Saginaw Valley State's Doug Hansen Open on Friday. As a team, the Saints had four auto performances and one provisional.

Johnson cleared 5 feet, 6 inches (1.68 meters) while placing third in the high jump. She improved her previous-best jump by one inch.

McKinley and twin sister Sheila McKinley finished third and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault. Tasha cleared 11-1 1/4 (3.64m) and recorded a 4 1/4-inch improvement on her previous auto height. Sheila hit an auto herself, clearing 11-5 1/4 (3.49m), but failed to meet her previous top performance.

SHU's 4x800 foursome recorded a second-place time of 9:31.26 -- an auto ime on SVSU's oversized track. Team members were Brianna Pekel, Ashley Russo, Mariah Ridal and Arika Knannlein.

The Siena Heights 4x400 team of Ridal, Hannah Shellenbarger, Knannlein and Pekel combined for second-place finish in 4:00.58 -- a provisional time on the oversized oval. The Saints had already reached provisional status earlier in the season.

On the season, the SHU women now have 10 automatic qualifiers and four provisionals.
