Renshaw Sets New Weight Record as Women's T&F Opens Indoor Season at SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Kasey Renshaw won the weight throw with a school-record and NAIA automatic-qualifying distance as the Siena Heights women's indoor track and field team opened its season at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Classic on Friday. The Saints recorded eight event wins, six auto performances and one provisional mark.

Renshaw won the weight throw with a distance of 62 feet, 5 1/2 inches (19.04 meters) to best her previous school record by 3 feet, 9 inches (previous: 58-8 1/2).

Renshaw also hit an auto distance in the shot put, finishing runner-up with a throw of 43-1 (13.13m). Teammate Haley Hudson took third with a 41-4 1/2 (12.61m).

Other individual winners for the Saints included Phoenix Duncan, Miranda Johnson, Arika Knannlein, Stephanie Marquardt, Sheila McKinley and Ashley Russo.

Duncan and Marquardt won with auto performances.

Duncan was first in the high jump, clearing 5-8 (1.73), while teammate Marissa Johnson cleared a provisional height of 5-4 1/4 (1.63m) to place third.

Marquardt clocked in at 8.80 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles.

Miranda Johnson placed first in the long jump with a distance of 17-4 1/2 (5.30m) while teammate Jalesia Johnson took second with a 17-3 (5.26m). Jalesia Johnson also took second in the triple jump with a 35-6 (10.82m) and Miranda Johnson came in third with a 34-1 (10.39m).

Knannlein won the 800 with a time of 2:22.15 and Russo claimed first in the mile with a 5:22.61.

McKinley was the top pole vaulter with a height of 10-9 (3.28m). She bested twin sister Tasha McKinley and fellow teammate Carlye Voorhorst, who both cleared 10-2 3/4 (3.12m) to finish second and third, respectively.

Brianna Pekel ran an auto time in the 400, crossing the finish line in 58.21 seconds to place third. Jalesia Johnson added a runner-up placement on the track, finishing the 200 in 26.04 seconds.

The Saints' 4x400 relay team had an auto performance as well, winning its even with a time of 4:00.28. Team members were Miranda Johnson, Jalesia Johnson, Pekel and Knannlein.
