Six-Goal Second Half Propels Saints over Pioneers

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team earned their second win of the season over Point Park (Pa.) with a score seven to two after the Saints had a big second half of scoring six goals in the last 45 minutes of gameplay. Madeline Reau (Senior, Temperance, Mich.) recorded two goals on the night, which both made it in goal in the winning effort for SHU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers were able to put themselves on the board first when Taylor Goldstrohm netted a ball in the 6th minute of gameplay to put Point Park in the lead. Three minutes later Gabby Widman scored on an assist from Chloe Bowser in the 9th minute of play to give the Pioneers a two-goal lead over the Saints early in the first half. The Saints answered as Jennifer Richmond (Junior, Canton, Mich.) was able to capitalize on the turnover and shot from 16 yards out to net the ball and put SHU on the board and reduce Point Park's lead by one goal in the 11th minute of gameplay. At the end of the first half, The Saints edged the Pioneers 15 to six in shots and three to two on corner kicks. 

SHU started off the second half down by one goal but they found a way to get it done offensively as they scored six goals over Point Park. The Saints started off the second half with a goal by Isabel Remar (Freshman, Lowell, Mich.) from an assist by Ashley Strong (Junior, Howell, Mich.) as Remar was able to outrun the defender and score from the goal line to tie the game in the 49th minute of play. SHU would keep the momentum going as Erin Tyson (Freshman, Freeland, Mich.) lead the pass through the defense and scored in the 63rd minute of gameplay. Berenice Huette-Moncelet (Freshman, Pontivy, France) scored off an assist from Alexa Scroggie (Junior, New Boston, Mich.) and Magali Romero (Senior, Asuncion, Paraguay) as they both lead the pass through the defense to get it in scoring position in the 78th minute of play. Marissa young (Freshman, Genoa, Ohio) scored from an assist by Remar as she got the rebound and passed the ball placing it in a scoring position in the 83rd minute of play. Reau would score the last two goals of the game as she scored off of a cross from Kennedy Barr (Junior, Eastpointe, Mich) in the 88th minute of gameplay. A minute later the duo would repeat the same play putting the Saints 7th goal up on the board and earning SHU the win over the Point Park (Pa.) Pioneers.

 

TOP SAINTS

• Reau recorded two goals on the night to lead the Saints in scoring.

• Richmond, Remar, Tyson, Huette-Moncelet, and Young all earned a goal on the night.

• Strong, Scroggie, Romero, and Remar each had an assist on the night while Barr had two.

Sophia Lentz (W, 2-1) had six saves on the night between the pipes for the Saints.

THE OPPOSING

• Goldstrohm recorded two shots on the night, scoring once.

• Widman also recorded two shots, two of which were on goal and one a goal. 

• Ashtyn Webb (L, 0-4) had eight saves in 90 minutes of play for the Pioneers.
